The City of North Charleston was incorporated in 1972. With a population of approximately 20,000 people carved from 7 square miles of unincorporated Charleston County, North Charleston today has grown to over 80,000 residents located in both Charleston and Dorchester County.
North Charleston is currently redeveloping its riverfront with an ambitious mixed use project called Noisette and a new shipping port along the banks of the Cooper River on the site of the old Charleston Navy Base. Since those dual announcements several years ago, North Charleston and Park Circle real estate has been very active.
Tourism and shopping are big with many thousands of hotel rooms surrounding the Charleston International Airport, a 13,500 seat Coliseum for both sports and concerts and a convention and performing arts center. Shopping is adjacent at the Tanger Outlet Center along with many other stores and restaurants at the Centre Point Development.
